Florianópolis
Southern Brazil · Brazil · South America
Sun-bleached surf towns and lagoon parties blend with a buzzy entrepreneurial energy.
Florianópolis is an island city in southern Brazil with 40-plus beaches, a growing tech scene, and a quality of life that draws Brazilians and nomads alike. The north is touristy and lively, the south wild and surfy, the center a real working city. It's safer and more orderly than much of Brazil, with great surf and lagoon life, but it gets crowded and pricey in summer, and you really need a car. A strong pick for beach-plus-startup living.
