Koh Phangan
Southeast Asia · Thailand · Asia
Jungle, full moons, and ecstatic dance — equal parts party and ashram.
Koh Phangan is best known for the Full Moon Party, but most of the island is far quieter, with a strong wellness, yoga, and conscious-community scene on the Sri Thanu side. You can live cheaply between jungle and beach, choosing your dose of party or peace. The tradeoffs are island logistics, basic healthcare, a transient population, and a divide between the backpacker party zone and the spiritual retreat crowd. Best for wellness seekers and free spirits who want tropical island life with a community to plug into.

Best for
Not for
Split between a party-and-backpacker crowd and a sizable yoga-wellness-nomad community on the west coast. Easy to find your people in either camp, very social, though the population turns over constantly.
